Greek 2 – Eighth Class

It’s been a while since I blogged on my Greek class. I’ve been too busy to even do a thorough job on the homework let alone blog on it! The travel, the (thankfully now past) illness, and now this month I’m teaching Old Testament book overviews… lots going on.

Anyway, class has been great. We’re in new digs now: the MacLaurin Institute offices are moving to a location that we think will be less convenient for our class, so nearby [Bethlehem Baptist][1] (where John Piper preaches) has graciously allowed us to use a room. No more parking meters… ahhh.

Side note: Piper’s website [desiringgod.org][2] is very nice work, technically speaking.

We doubled our personal endings last week (learning secondary endings), and my mind hasn’t assimilated them yet. They are similar to primaries, but different enough where in the end the simply must be memorized perfectly.

Reading was tougher tonight; John 2:27-3:3. The Translation Cage Match on those verses is between ASV and NIV. I don’t like the NIV. There. I said it.

Most of this semester has been all those little words we use so often: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person personal pronouns, relative pronouns, demonstrative pronouns and adjectives. It’s been very good, and makes even my 1st grade level reading easier, but it’s really a lot. I think I need to just “read” more. Well, that and spend more time on the homework.

– Sanday, W & Headlam, A. A Critical and Exegetical Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans, ICC

Preview:

– understand meaning of aorist tense
– distinction between 1st and 2nd aorist
– know how the aorist gets translated
– similarities and cifferences between aorist and imperfect

Homework:

– Read: Chap 22
– Vocab: Chap 22
– Wkbk: Parse **all**
– Wkbk: Translate 1-5
